Ubbink Dry Ridge System
Brightwell’s Yard, Farnham, Surrey

Developer: Crest Nicholson
Roofing Contractor: Elliotts Premier Roofing

Regional Manager at Ubbink: Steve Rumble

Situated in the middle of the historic market town of Farnham and bordering by the River Wey, Brightwells Yard is a new premium mixed-use development by Surrey-based Crest Nicholson, with a phased opening from 2021.

A twenty-five unit shopping centre, six-screen cinema, cafes, bars and restaurants share the space with 239 contemporary apartments, a town square and public gardens with all being linked together by a new network of footpaths. The result is an attractive and vibrant shopping, eating and socialising destination, as well as being a great place to live.

Big names coming to the town include Reel Cinemas, Marks & Spencer Simply Food and Seasalt, with more to be announced in the coming months.

The development has been carefully designed to reflect and complement the predominantly Georgian and earlier architecture of the adjacent town centre, with red brick, stucco and timbered facades under pitched slate and tile roofs.

Ridge install

Crest Nicholson appointed Southampton-based Elliotts Premier Roofing as a key sub-contractor for the project.

Careful consideration was needed during the specification stage to ensure efficient, quick installation as well as high quality materials and finishing, with long-term durability.

Elliotts Premier Roofing selected Ubbink’s Ventilated Dry Ridge system to mechanically fix ridge tiles to roofs throughout the entire development, with the exception of a small area of green roofing, where tiles and/or slates were not utilised.

The Dry Ridge system is part of Ubbink’s well-established dry-fix roofing portfolio which also includes a Universal Dry Verge kit. Both systems are fully tested by the BRE and are BS8612, BS5534 and BS5250 compliant, meeting all current standards.

These increasingly popular solutions are mechanically fixed without the requirement for traditional mortar installation which often needs replacing over time and can become unsightly. With the high costs associated with remedial roofwork due to the need for scaffolding, this can represent a significant reduction in ongoing maintenance costs.

The Ubbink Dry Ridge system provides a high level of ventilation for flat or profiled tiles and slates: an easy-fix, one box solution truly covering 6m lengths even when used with a deep profile. It’s watertight and has a wind uplift rating to suit most UK propertiers and locations.

As well as delivering practical advantages, the system offers excellent aesthetics, with unobtrusive fixings and consistently accurate spacing of ridge tiles.

Each Ubbink Dry Ridge Kit contains 13 ridge unions, 26 ridge clips 13 clamping plates, 13 screws, 1 ridge roll (6m x 300mm), 10 ridge batten straps and a clear, easy-to-follow installation guide.

The system is available from independent merchants throughout the UK, together with Ubbink’s growing range of high quality roof vents & terminals, non-lead flashing solutions and roofline products.
